Delbert L. Grayned's Obituary
Delbert Lee Grayned, the son of Lee Roy and Elsie Mae (Starks) Grayned, was born on Wednesday September 10th, 1941 in Decatur, Illinois. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Lee Roy Jr., Otha Eldridge, John, Charles and George Grayned; as well as his sisters Mary Ellen Rawls, Thelma Taylor and Elsie “Tippy” Wallace.
Delbert was married to Veoria Grayned. This family consists of Mark, Antoine, Tameka, and Tashanna of Decatur, Illinois; Steven of Atlanta, Georgia; Tammy Cunningham of Taylorsville, Mississippi; and Channing of Austell, Georgia.
Delbert served in the military, graduated from barber college and retired from Firestone after 32 years. He also studied the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and had a strong desire to get baptized. Delbert’s nick names were Doflick and Big D and many called him Dell. He enjoyed dogs, riding motorcycles, fishing, cars and visiting with family and friends. Delbert was well known for his kind and generous spirit. To Dell there was no such thing as a stranger. Dell will always be remembered for time well spent with his family including the many barbecues, drive in movie Saturdays, and motorcycle rides to visit his parents to enjoy a cup of coffee.
In addition to his supportive and caring wife Veoria of fifty years, Delbert also leaves to cherish fond memories his children, his daughter-in-law Athena Grayned, son-in-laws Sterling Cunningham of Mississippi and Juan Smith of Decatur, Illinois; his sister-in-laws Marilyn Grayned of Decatur, Illinois and Rhonda Grayned of Atlanta, Georgia; his brother-in-laws Wellington Wallace and Thomas Rawls also of Decatur, Illinois; grandchildren Brandon, Alisha, Myles, Carlos, Ambriah, Kaylen, Khyree, Amber, Dylan, Zavery, Camden, Brad, Quintarius and Quontez, Daequan, Desuan, Misty, Dominique, Alexzuandraya, Jeleasa, and Chase and other relatives as well.
Delbert Lee Grayned, 72, passed away on Friday May 9th at Decatur Memorial Hospital and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Services to celebrate Delbert’s life will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Decatur. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be 12 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
