Denise Diane Bertsche's Obituary
La Place – Denise “Diane” Bertsche, 63, of La Place, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Diane was born in Taylorville, IL, on September 11, 1962, the daughter of Karin O’Brien and Gerry Madeker. She graduated from Findlay High School in 1980 and attended Richland Community College and received a certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1990. Diane was department head of Quality Engineering for Precision Pressed Powdered Metals for many years.
She married Randall A. Wood on May 15, 1982. They divorced. She then married David A. Bertsche on July 4, 2009, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 2012. Diane was also preceded in death by her only child Kari Anne Goodner on April 9, 2023, her sister Kathryn Jo, mother-in-law Gladys Bertsche, and maternal grandparents James and Kathryn O’Brien.
Diane is survived with loving memory by her mother, Karin Fisher of La Place; twin sisters: Cathleen (Lee) Barringer of Dalton City and Christine (Mark) Cramblett of Decatur; father-in-law Hilary Bertsche of Goshen, IN; grandsons: Kolby (Haylee) Goodner of Carbondale, Jaron Goodner and Jordan Goodner of West Frankfort; granddaughters: Addison Goodner and Lynzi Goodner of West Frankfort; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Throughout her life, Diane enjoyed caring for the needs of others ignoring her own failing health. She enjoyed crocheting, a craft her grandmother taught her. She crocheted and donated over 300 cancer afgans for the sick and dying in her husband’s memory. Diane loved and looked forward to the weekly lunch dates with her sisters and occasional weekend trips. She was always a best friend and constant companion with her mother. She will remain a source of encouragement for all the lives she touched. She will never be forgotten and will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 10 am until the time of the funeral Mass at 11 am, at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Assumption, IL. Memorials may be given to the family.
