Dennis Louis Sedlak's Obituary
Decatur-Dennis Louis Sedlak, 79, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 in Decatur.
Dennis was born on August 19, 1937 in Schuyler, Nebraska, the son of Louis and Adela M. Sedlak. He married Eleanore “Ellie” Navrkal October 7, 1961 in Schuyler, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in agronomy. He was employed by DeKalb AgResearch for thirty-five years in Ulysses, Kansas, Dumas, Texas, and Illiopolis, Illinois, where he was a foundation manager of the sorghum and soybean division. He was a member of the Illinois Seed Dealers Association and past president of the Illinois Seed Trade Association.
Dennis was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he was active in bible studies for many years. He proudly served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Golden K.
Having been raised on a farm in Nebraska, Dennis never lost interest in agriculture. He always enjoyed watching things grow and continued to be an avid gardener after his retirement. He bravely struggled with the effects of Type 1 Diabetes and Multiple Sclerosis for over forty years.
Dennis is survived by his wife Ellie, beloved daughters Allyson Vogt (Jim) of Mayfield, Kentucky and Audrey Szews (Tom) of Brookfield, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his grandsons Ryan, Eric, and Christopher Vogt and Matthew, Jonathan, Michael, and Andrew Szews who were the joys of his life.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, infant sister, and niece Becky Jedlicka.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Dennis’ life will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 3850 Lourdes Drive Decatur, with Rev. Rick Weltin celebrant. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass, starting at 9:30 AM. Burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, St. Teresa High School, or the Golden K Scholarship.
