Donald Francis Kerwood, 78, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 3:43AM on Friday, July 21, 2023, in McLean County Nursing Home, Normal, IL.
Donald was born to Charles Donald Kerwood and Eunice May (Strahle) Kerwood on June 10, 1945, in Decatur, IL. He married Nancy Caroline Eicholtz on October 9, 1965, in Decatur, IL.
Donald served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He had a thirst for knowledge and was an avid historian with a focus on the Civil War and World War II. He enjoyed bird watching, woodworking, writing poetry, loved his cats, dogs and spending time with his family.
Donald is survived by his wife Nancy; one son: Chris Kerwood and wife April of Decatur, IL; one daughter: Melissa Whittington of Decatur, IL; three grandchildren: Krista Kerwood, Kylan Kerwood and Tristen Whittington; one sister: Alice Doeding and husband Russell of Mt. Zion, IL, and nephew: Mark Doeding of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home from 10:00-11:00AM on Thursday (08-03-2023) with a graveside service following at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL, at 12:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Decatur Humane Society.
