A Staley employee & parochial grade school busdriver took us to school in the 1950s, named Don - someone later said his last name was Metzger. If this was him, he was kind & protective of a 1st & 2nd grade talkative girl, age 5-7. I always wanted to find him & thank him.
My Dad was Mr. Metzgers roommate, I always enjoyed talking to him when I'd visit. My condolences to your families.
Don was one-of-a-kind. He hated seeing anything go to waste. He loved his family. He lived in the same house for some 90 years. He would do anything for anyone who asked. I never had an unpleasant moment with him through scores of meals out at Claire's and elsewhere. Lots of fun with Dominoes. He was exactly what he was. Not a fake bone in his body.
Faithful to the Lord and to the church his whole life. This picture is the four Metzger brothers at Don and Arnold's birthday 2 or 3 years ago. It was an honor to be there with such good men, especially Don.
Uncle Don was the best person I knew. I remember he always had time for a game of dominoes or canasta. I will miss our monthly phone calls dearly. Rest in peace now Don. I hope you know you were loved
So enjoyed my Uncle visiting him on the porch where you could find him reading westerns a great soul who had his rosary beads always close Domino’s and cards he was always up for a game worked at smh for many years and kept vigil in the chapel many of hours I have the honor of driving Donald’s green Toyota van his only car he bought brand new - it’s a jewel just like Donald my grandaughter Lilly enjoyed his stories we will miss him he is resting in heaven !!!
Uncle Donald was a kind, reverent and gentle man who was always helping others.
I admired him greatly.

We lost one of the greatest Generation. Served in the pacific theatre in WWII. Took us grandkids on many a great adventure to the cabin up on the Illinois River. Don was a good hard working soul. A good man. He is in a much better place now. Rest easy uncle Don. You have earned it.
