Donald W. Morthland's Obituary
Mr. Morthland was born on December 24, 1926 in Decatur, a son of Martin E. and Irma Luella Fletcher Morthland. He was a retired Appellate Court Judge retiring on December 31, 1986 after serving in that position for 2 years, prior to that he served as a Circuit Court Judge for 22 years. In January of 1995, after several years of retirement, he returned to practice law at the law firm of Morthland Morthland and Rau P.C.. He attended Millikin University, University of Illinois, Penn State University, and in 1951 he graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law. Mr. Morthland was a member of Central Christian Church, the Decatur Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association, and former member of the Gray Beards Band. He was a Army Veteran of WWII, where during his free time, he enjoyed playing his alto sax. Mr. Morthland married Charlotte Peck on September 07, 1947 in Decatur and she preceded him in death on May 08, 1994.
Surviving are his daughters: Janet Whitehead, husband Frank of Decatur; Jane Morthland of St. Louis, Mo.; Jo Carter, husband Greg of Decatur; son, Mark S. Morthland, wife Wendy of Decatur; sister, Marilyn A. Shroyer, husband Donald G. of Decatur; sisters-in-law: Kathy D. Peck of St. Louis, Mo.; Ruth E. Morthland of Decatur; Mary Peck of Sussex, WI.; grandchildren: Matt, Tim, Katie, Jared, Megan, Michael, Taylor and Madeline; great grandson Jacob; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
His parents; wife; grandson, Kyle; brother, Richard F. Morthland Sr., and nephew Richard F. Morthland Jr. preceded him in death.
