Dora M. Stauder's Obituary
Decatur-Dora Marie “Dodie” Stauder, 81, of Decatur, passed away at 6:45 pm on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Dodie was born on April 18, 1929 in Decatur the daughter of the late Earl and Clara Young Garver. She attended St. James Elementary School and St. Teresa High School, where she graduated in 1947. She then attended St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, IL. She worked for a brief time at Americana Nursing Home, but spent the majority of her nursing career employed at St. Mary’s Hospital. On May 6, 1950, she married the love of her life, Joseph Bernard “Butch” Stauder, and they were blessed with over 59 years of happiness together, raising their children. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2009.
Surviving Mrs. Stauder are seven of her eight children: Michael Stauder Ruth of Villa Grove, IL; Claire Emrick John of Lancaster, PA; Connie Fogarty Michael of Dalton City, IL; Julie Duffy Shannon of St. Louis, MO; Liz Schultz of Decatur; Martin Stauder Karla of Westfield, IN; Nancy Blair Gary of Chattanooga, TN; along with 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Other survivors include her brother, William Garver Betty of Virginia, IL. .
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, one son, John, brothers, Alois and Russell, and one sister Patricia.
Dodie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma, who loved nothing more than “making Butch happy” and caring for her family. She unselfishly gave of herself to others. Her greatest joy outside her family, was watching St. Louis Cardinals Baseball; all who knew her would say she was their number one fan.
We will miss our beloved mother, grandma, sister, aunt. Her love and devotion to us was unconditional and never ending, as is our love for her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday, April 16, 2011 in St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Grant as celebrant. Visitation will be 6:00 ' 8:00 pm Friday in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with a Vigil Prayer Service at 5:30 pm. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Teresa High School or Ss. James and Patrick Elementary School.
