Dorcas Darlene "Dorie" Akers' Obituary
Decatur-Dorcas Darlene “Dorie” Akers, 89, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Heartland of Decatur.
Dorie was born January, 1, 1924, in Pocahontas, Iowa, the daughter of Pearle R. and Violet L. (Beebe) Camden. She was retired from banking with Millikin and 1st National Banks, she then worked for H&R Block and Sears. She loved spending time with her husband, kids, and grandkids, the St. Louis Cardinals, Illini Basketball, music especially Kickin Grass, playing the organ, bird watching, and yard work. She was a member of Peoples Church of God now known as Life Builders Church of God and the YMCA. She married Gary N. Akers December 5, 1964 in Decatur.
Dorie leaves behind her husband Gary, daughters Judy (Cornell) Harrington of Edmond, Oklahoma, Pat (Cornell) Schultz of Seal Beach, California, and Leslie (Akers) Robertson of Mt. Zion, Illinois, brothers George Camden of Ballwin, Missouri and Robert “Barney” Camden of Bement, Illinois, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Dorie was reunited in Heaven with her parents, son, two daughters, three sisters, and two brothers.
Services to celebrate Dorie’s life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Point Pleasant Cemetery in Long Creek. Memorials may be directed to Life Builders Church of God formerly known as Peoples Church of God.
