Dorothy M. Cooper's Obituary
Dorothy M. Cooper, 98, of Stonington, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Taylorville Care Center.
Dorothy was born in Stonington on September 11, 1914, the daughter of Jep Peterson and Effie (Durham) Lind, Jr. She was a homemaker and longtime member of Stonington First Baptist Church, where she was very active in many capacities. Dorothy was a very sweet and loving woman, with a kind and quiet nature. She loved to read and was also a member of the Christian County Homemakers Extension for many years. Dorothy married Claude Elbert Cooper on March 3, 1946, and he preceded her in death on May 4, 1984. Also preceding her in death were her parents, sister, Lola Sloan, and brothers, Elmer and Roger Lind.
Survivors include her son, Richard (Connie) Cooper of Stonington; daughter, Elaine (David) Hamm of Decatur; grandson, Dr. Jonathan (Andrea) Hamm of Peoria; great-grandson, Brock, and another great-grandson due this summer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the service time at 11 am, Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Stonington First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Old Stonington Cemetery. Memorials: First Baptist Church.
