Dorothy A. Durbin's Obituary
Decatur – Dorothy A. Durbin, 91, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Imboden Creek Living Center.
Dorothy was born October 28, 1925 in Decatur the daughter of Herbert Christopher and Sadie Marie (Dietz) Dieckhoff. A charter member of Holy Family Church, Dorothy worked as a secretary for Hays Hatchery and Wolverine Insurance. She loved to read and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Her and her husband, Jerry loved to watch their children and grandchildren participate in sports and school activities. They were also very active in their church activities including the Holy Family Fish Fries. Dorothy married Gerald Durbin May 13, 1950 and he preceded her in death May 9, 2011. Also preceding her in death are her parents; brothers: Herbert, Bill, Jack and Eugene “Chub”; sisters: Louise, Frances, Margaret Jane and Betty; one grandson, Ryan Christopher.
Surviving are her sons: Gary L Durbin and wife Jan, Ed Durbin and wife Lorrie, and Thomas M. Durbin and wife Lois, all of Decatur; grandchildren: Matthew (Angie) Durbin of St. Louis, Jacob (Amanda) Durbin of Elburn, Melissa (Jared) Staples of Mt. Zion, Jeffery Durbin of Decatur, Amy Durbin of Decatur, Craig (Brenna) Durbin of Indianapolis, and Joshua Durbin of Columbus, OH and Jeremy Durbin of Oswego; great grandchildren: Benjamin Durbin, Lucas Durbin, Justin Staples, Maddox Durbin, Landon Durbin, Mason Staples and Caden Durbin; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be 2 pm, Monday, December 26, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Very Rev. Joseph M. Molloy, V.F., celebrant. Visitation will be from 12 pm until the time of the mass in the church. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Church or St. Teresa High School.
