Dorothy H. Jestis' Obituary
Dorothy H. Jestis Dottie went to the gates of heaven on April 2, 2008. She was greeted by her husband Jim, sisters, Leona, Lucille, and Viola, her parents, George and Anna Bruder and many close friends.
Dorothy was born to George and Anna Blank Bruder on April 8. She was a lifetime member of St. James Catholic Church and graduate of Decatur High.
She met James B. Jestis Jim the love of her life through mutual passion for roller skating. Together they became commissioned roller dance judges. They were married November 21, 1959 and to this union two children, Alice Ann and Stephen Tony were born. Jim preceded her in death on August 12, 2002.
Jim and Dottie were very active in the Knights of Columbus. They were past commodores of the Dolphin Boat Club. Boating was a passion they enjoyed. Dottie frequently talked about those late night cruises on Lake Decatur. She was a Den Mother and a troop committee member for her son’s Boy Scout Troop. She received her wood badge beads. She was a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter for many years and was a lifetime member of Shemamo Girl Scouts. She was a member of Experimental Air Craft Association.
She volunteered for the American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” program. She was past president of Decatur Junior Women’s Club; as well as the St. Elizabeth Altar Society. She was very active in her church as a Eucharistic Minister and greeter. She also belonged to the Decatur Deanery, and Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary.
Dottie will always be remembered as the “Pizza Lady” at Cub Foods, where she worked for many years as a demo hostess. In her younger years Dottie played semi-pro softball and skated at Regal Roller Rink.
Dottie is survived by her son, Stephen A. Tony Jestis and wife Connie of Festus, MO; daughter, Alice Ann and husband Rick Younker of Decatur; sisters: Mary Welsh, Georgianna Scammahorn, and brother, George and wife Betty Ann Bruder all of Decatur, grandchildren: Jacanthony Heather Kim, Jilashli Kim and Trenton Jestis, step-grandchildren; Shelby Younker, Tyler, Allison, and Audrey Self; great grandson, Jakob Kim; special “sister”, Sylvia Brinkoetter and “special son” Alan Brinkoetter.
She was preceded by her parents, husband and three sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Saturday April 5, 2008 in St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Grant as Celebrant. Visitation will be 5:00 ' 7:00 pm Friday in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with a Vigil Prayer Service at 4:30 pm. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park. Memorial gifts are suggested to the family.
