Dorothy J. Meis' Obituary
Dorothy Meis, 91, of Decatur died Monday, September 23, 2013.
Dorothy was born May 22, 1922, in Decatur, daughter of Russell A. & Madeline (Moran) Harper. She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1940 and Brown’s Business College.
She retired from the Macon County Health Department in June of 1996 after 35 years of service.
Dorothy was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of Decatur. She was a member of the Kiwanianne Club of Decatur, American Legion Auxiliary and a past member of Delta Theta Tau society, Beta Rho Chapter. She was a Cub Scout den mother for several years. She volunteered at the Macon County Health Department Flu Clinic for many years.
She married Ralph Meis in February of 1943.
Dorothy is survived by her son Ralph Dennis Meis of Herkimer, New York; daughter-in-law, Kathy Meis of Urbana; eight grandchildren: Raymond, Sherrie, Tracey, Shane (Stephanie), Kevin, Brian, Bradley, and Bridget; several great grandchildren; nieces: Connie Requarth (Fred Spannaus) of Decatur, Anne Jurgens (Larry) of Lockport, Carol Harper (boyfriend Robin Fuchs) of Springfield; nephews: Michael Harper (Raquel) of North Miami Beach, Florida, Russell Harper (Karen) of Ramsey, Patrick Harper (Debra) of Decatur, and Edward (Dawn) of Ramsey.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Madeline & Russell Harper; son Mark Meis; brother Ray Harper; Ralph Meis; and nephew Larry Harper.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013 in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Molloy as celebrant. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Please address memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church or Kiwanianne Club of Decatur.
