Dorothy "Dot" Wolford Rice's Obituary
Dorothy 'Dot' M. Wolford Rice, 92, of Decatur passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in Hickory Point Christian Village with her family by her side.
Dorothy was born May 3, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of James Hobson and Ida Mae (Robinson) Harper. She was a charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church, a long time volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital, and a sorority member of Beta Sigma Phi. She married Charles Ross Wolford. He preceded her in death in 1966. She later married Frank Rice. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Dorothy leaves behind her son, Fr. Don Wolford of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Marianne Surprenant and husband Paul of Kankakee, IL; step-daughters, Linda McLargin of Florida; Marcia Nuciforo of Wisconsin; Nancy Rice of Michigan; brothers, Robert Harper of Yountville, CA; Bill Harper of San Mateo, CA; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three sons, John Patrick Michael Wolford, Charles Ross Wolford Jr., and Robert N. Wolford, one brother, Frank Harper, and one sister, Mary Ann McDermott.
Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Monday, July 16, 2012 in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Don Wolford and Rev. Joe Molloy Concelebrating. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Sunday in the church with a Vigil Prayer Service at 3:30 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Decatur. Memorials are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church or Hickory Point Christian Village.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Rademacher, Dr. Raycraft, the staff at Hickory Point Christian Village, and the staff of Harbor Lights Hospice for all their care for Dot.
