Duane E. Durbin's Obituary
Duane E. Durbin, 81, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born at home in Saint Elmo, Illinois on September 2, 1937 to Jesse F. and Hazel B. (Nowlin) Durbin.
He held various positions in his lifetime. He worked as a mechanic in numerous places, owned his own filling station, and worked construction for Chastain, in the oil fields of Texas and eventually a machinist at Mueller’s in Decatur where he retired after 30 years of dedication.
He loved to go fishing and camping when he had the chance and once was an avid hunter. He enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, especially with his granddaughter, Makayla. He has always been a fan of westerns. It used to be that he never went without one of his Louis La’more books or the television was tuned into on, unless of course the Cubbies were playing. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur.
He leaves behind to cherish memories: one sister, Elma Pallone of Decatur; his son Mark Dougles Durbin and his daughter, Patricia Kay (Tim) Altherr of Decatur; three grandchildren, Christopher Michael Becker of Illiopolis; Makayla Renee Durbin of Missouri; and Ryan James Altherr of Decatur; one great-granddaughter, Evelyn Kay Becker. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and two daughters, Vicky England and Paula Durbin of Decatur along with four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his significant other Janice Lee Force; a daughter, Penny Renee Durbin; his parents, Jesse F. and Hazel B. Durbin; four brothers, Jesse Durbin Jr., Wayne Durbin, Benny Durbin and Gary Durbin; two sisters, Charlotte Stafford and Ina Obrien.
Funeral Services to celebrate the life of Duane Durbin will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will be at Sidener Cemetery in Saint Elmo.
