Dudley Thomas Porter's Obituary
Dudley Thomas Porter, 91, of Moweaqua, passed away at 11:45 pm, Saturday, December 19, 2009 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.
Dudley was born October 23, 1918, in rural Moweaqua, the son of Thomas and Marjorie Porter. A graduate of Moweaqua High School, he proudly served in the U.S Army in the South Pacific with headquarters at Houme, Caledonia, before being discharged in 1943. He retired from Caterpillar, Inc., Decatur in 1979 after 25 years of service. Dudley married Ruby E. Pope on July 26, 1944 in Decatur.
He leaves behind his wife of 65 years; his children: Joe Sandy Porter of Oswego, Margie Curtis McPeak of Dalton City, and Dudley Melissa Porter of Vandalia; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and his beloved dogs: Suzy, Morgan and Scooby.
Dudley is remembered by his family as a most generous and unselfish husband, father and grandpa. He was dedicated to the love of his rural farm. He will be sadly missed however his legacy and spirit will live forever in our hearts.
Dudley will be cremated per his wishes and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army.
