I just found this today. It just reminds me and saddens my heart of my dear cousin, Man as we called him growing up and never ever called him Earl even though I knew that was his given name. He used to paint along with his dad and his uncle, my dad, Elmer Sparks. I shall never forget him. He always had a smile, a joke, a memory about our parents. The last time I saw him in Decatur, IL he reminded me so much of my own dad. He is to be missed and in later years in his life he renewed his relationship with the Lord and was so glad to hear that. So cousins, children, friends, I am so sorry and sadden by Earl's passing and may the God of Earl and my God also keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. May He give you peace as each day goes by. We never forget our loved ones but God gives us the grace to go through life. ,

Uncle Man was very special to me. He had such a great sense of humor which made me laugh, was always positive, and I admired him for his inner strength to overcome major obstacles in his life & turn them over to the Lord. I have many fond momories over the years. There is a picture of Uncle Man & my brother Bill standing side by side both wearing suits. Bill was about 2yrs & his head might reach up to Uncle Man's knee caps. So Funny! It always reminded me of Laurel & Hardy, but instead of fat & skinny they were tall & short. As a kid, I remember sitting on his lap while he bounced me then suddenly separating his knees so I begin to fall but he'd catch me before I'd hit the floor. I'd just laugh & laugh! Through the yrs I've hears many wise cracks, jokes, & old stories-what a jokester! He was a pure joy to be around. Later in life when I'd come to Decatur we'd go to his favorite restaruant-Red Lobster to visit. In our last coversation, I told him of my painter problems & told him I wished he was painting my house that way I would know it was done the right way! Uncle Man always looked like Dean Martin to me-such a handsome man with a great smile! He was one-of-a-kind. He made a hugh, postive impact in my life and I will deeply miss him. Lucas, TX US

I have memories of Uncle Man coming to Kansas City and painting our house..along with our family. I remember going fishing with him and my grandpa at Decatur Lake and learning to TWIST with the rest of the family. He was a lot of fun and that is the way I will remember him! Topeka , KS US

The memories I have; the old house on Marietta St, behind the Shell Station, Condet St. behind Staleys, the ole Blue/White 41 Ford, Chevy panel paint truck, the bowling alley on Water St., cruising old Lincoln Square on Friday and Saturday nights, the walk he had…I could go on and on. I knew Earl, Sparkie, or Man whichever he was to you, almost all my life. I know his dad and sister, Betty Jo, always called him Man. The memories will never go away and will always make me smile. To the Family my sincere condolences. I wish I could be there Saturday and see you all again. Maybe someday I will. I think of you and back home often. I worked at McKinley Court and was according to Earl his Favorite Nurse Laugh, but then again he had alot of Favorites. : I will truly miss my "Earl". We had many, many long talks while I passed medications he would stay by my side going up and down the hall talking about his family and mine. We became very close and I became to look at Earl as a "Grandfather" figure but if you asked him he would of told you I was his girlfriend, laugh!! I have certain residents that touch my heart but Earl is one who will Truly stay in my Heart Forever. Yes, he managed to squirm a place there for Life. I know he will watch over you all. I have a peace within my heart that I now know he will no longer suffer and that he is at Peace. He is in Heaven with his daughter and other family members making a wise crack and joking like he always did. I love you Earl and may this memory bring happiness and a smile to all your family. You have my sincere condolences and sympathy for your family. Mary and Charles were very supportive of Earl and I know he spoke highly of both of you often as well as other family members.
