Earl Eugene "Gene" Worthey's Obituary
Decatur - Earl Eugene (Gene) Worthey 86, passed in the early morning on Thursday, October 15, 2020. He was born June 30, 1934, in Decatur, IL, to Clyde & Winifred Tipsword Worthey.
Earl “Gene” attended Decatur High and graduated in 1952. He later enlisted in the US Army for a 3 year tour. After the military, Earl attended Brown’s business college. On June 4th, 1966, Earl married the love of his life, Judith Y. Perrine. Earl “Gene” Worthey worked at Tolly’s in the Pines for 23 ½ years. He also was the Founder and Pastor of Gospel Chapel Church for 56 years. His ministry and piano playing is known all over the world.
He was survived by his loving wife, Judith Y. Worthey (for 4 days); sons: Philip (Anne) Worthey, & Christopher Worthey; grandson, Andrew Worthey; great granddaughter: Olivia Worthey siblings: Vivian Ekiss, Mary O’Dell, and Sheila (Richard) Cairns; many nieces, great nieces, and great-great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and great -great nephews; extended family: grandchildren: Pvt Christopher (Cari) Polmounter, Jeremy & Jermon Walker, Alissa, Alayna, Chase, & Noah Egan; great grandchildren: Jaxon & Hadley Polmounter.
Earl was a father, grandfather, and great grandfather to many many more….
Earl was preceded in death by his parents: Clyde & Winifred Worthey; step-mother, Marietta Storm; sisters Edna Groves and Nancy Whitaker; brother, Clyde “Butch” Worthey; brothers-in-law: Ronald Gene Ekiss, Jerry O’Dell and Ralph Groves; sister-in-law, Janet Worthey; and canine companion Ollie.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 25, 2020, from 3 to 5 pm at Maranatha Assembly of God Church, Decatur. Private family burial will take place at Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
