Edward McElroy's Obituary
Decatur- Edward M. McElroy, 92, of Decatur, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011 at Imboden Creek Living Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at St Thomas Catholic Church in Decatur, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. till the time of the service at the church. Interment with military honors and “Flight Home” ceremony will be at St. Isidore Cemetery, Bethany, Illinois.
Memorial contributions may be made to St Thomas Catholic Church or to Good Shepherd Manor.
Edward was born February 16, 1919 in Reedsville, Wisconsin, the son of William and Ellen McElroy. Edward proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was an avid Cardinal fan, loved classical music, and was an accomplished violinist. Edward was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather; he always had a smile and loved to joke with family and friends. To know him was to love him. Edward married Bess Ozier in Chicago, Illinois October 1945.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, sons, Marc McElroy of Momence, Illinois, Matthew McElroy and wife Tammy of Decatur, and Michael McElroy of Decatur, daughters, Mary Sampson and husband Gary of Decatur, and Margo Probst of Effingham, and grandchildren, Meredith, Kurt, Shannon, Taylor, Max, Zach, Jared, Eric, Mallory, Mitchell, and Timothee, son-in-law, Dennis Dumyahn.
Edward was greeted into Heaven by his parents and daughter Monica.
