Edward John O'Brien's Obituary
Edward John O’Brien, 83, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 7:35 A.M. on Monday (03-06-2023) in his residence.
John was born on January 1, 1940, in Decatur, IL, the son of James and Mabel (Osborn) O’Brien. He married Linda E. Kohlbecker on June 12, 1958, in Decatur, IL.
He was a member of Saints James and Patrick Parish. John also served his country in the United States Army. John enjoyed traveling, including many overseas trips and also going to Boise, Idaho where he enjoyed fishing. He was a kind and gentle soul who had a great sense of humor. John was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan; he also was a fan of the Chicago Bears. Linda and John danced for many years and also played cards. He liked spending time with friends, enjoyed going out to dinner, and especially loved time with his grandkids.
John is survived by his wife Linda of Decatur, IL; three daughters: Cheri L. O’Brien and fiancé Walter Slater II of Decatur, IL, Jamie A. O’Brien of Normal, IL, Krista S. Edgecombe and husband Dale of McCall, ID; seven grandchildren: Kelsey Bass and husband Brekk of Boise, ID, Kortney Edgecombe of Chicago, IL, Lauren Jones of Rockford, IL, Nick Edgecombe of Denver, CO, Erik Jones of Boise, ID, Noah Edgecombe of Tampa, FL, and Caroline Edgecombe of Boise, ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday (03-13-2023) at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until service time. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery Decatur, IL.
