Edwin Charles Aylward, 84, of Decatur, died Thursday, January 29, 2004, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 02, 2004, in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Fr. Dennis Kollross celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before services in the church. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at 2 p.m.in Holy Cross Cemetery, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church or National Shrine of St. Jude.
Edwin was born on March 05, 1919 in Nokomis the son of Edward F. and Marcella M. Dougherty Aylward. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and Owner/Operator of Aylco Chemical in Sullivan for more than 40 years. Edwin married Lurene M. Freese on February 25, 1941 in Sullivan.
Surviving is his loving wife of nearly 63 years; sons: James E. Aylward, wife Dolores of Dallas, TX; Robert L. Aylward, wife Kelly of Glenwood, MD; John P. Aylward, wife Michele of Fishers, IN.; daughters: Jane C. White, wife Tom of Greenfield, WI; Karon M. Meisel, husband Tom of Peoria; Marsha A. Benjamin of Peoria; Theresa B. Verkler of Brea, CA; Barbara M. Brasser, husband Dean of Madison, WI; brothers: Leon V. Aylward, wife Jean of St. Petersburg, FL; Eugene P. Aylward of Edwardsville; Arthur L. Aylward, wife Pat of Bloomington; sisters: Rosemary M. Morris of Baja, Mexico; Celene Smith, husband Myron of Champaign; Loretta Kibler, husband Bill of Decatur; 26 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His parents; son, Paul Charles Aylward; grandson, William Edwin Martinie; and one sister preceded him in death.
