Elbert Ray Dawes' Obituary
Elbert Ray Dawes, 72, of Decatur, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 in St. Mary's Hospital.
Elbert was born September 5, 1935, in Argenta, the son of Samuel P. and Lizzie Cole Dawes. He was employed as a clerk for Norfolk & Southern Rail Road retiring in 1985. Elbert married Patricia A. Krohn September 14, 1957 in Decatur. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
Elbert is survived by his wife, Patricia of Decatur; children: Steven Dawes of Decatur, Linda husband, Dr. Alan Proffitt of Marion, AR, Cheryl Wetherholt of Mt. Zion, Suzanne Derr of Decatur, and Catherine husband, John Tomlinson of Decatur; grandchildren: Amanda & Andrew Proffitt, Bethany Wetherholt, Jason Derr, Zachary Kater, Angel husband, Dustin Studebaker; great-granddaughters: Zoe Marie Studebaker & Emma Faith Proffitt; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and eight siblings.
Funeral service will be 2 pm, Friday, October 26, 2007 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; visitation will be one hour before the service. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
The family of Elbert Ray Dawes is being served by the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2801 N. Monroe St. Decatur.
