Elda "Daraleen" McIntyre's Obituary
Elda “Daraleen” McIntyre, 78, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Daraleen was born November 8, 1940 to Edward Nelson and Mabel M. (Cooper) McRoberts, in the old St. Mary’s Hospital on Wood Street. She lived in the same house at 2146 East Damon until her marriage to Robert Dean McIntyre on July 17, 1964. They were married 54 years and had one daughter Jackie (Jeffrey) Habing.
Daraleen graduated in the first graduating class of MacArthur High School along with her best friend Betty Hagen. They were friends until the end.
Darlene retired from AT&T in 1995 after 35 years. Once again, her best friend Betty Hagen shared the same retirement date with her.
She leaves behind her husband, Robert; her daughter, Jackie (Jeffrey) Habing; granddaughters, Jennifer Clifton, Stacey (Ronnie Miller, Jr.) Clifton; Step granddaughter, Tiffany (Luke) French; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Dustin, Abigail, McKenzie and Brody; sister-in-law’s, Tillie McRoberts, Helen McRoberts, Darlene McIntyre, Nancy McIntyre, Beverly McIntyre; two brother-in-law’s, Charles McIntyre and Dick McIntyre; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Daraleen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Arnold, Karol and Wendell McRoberts; and her sister, Elnora McRoberts.
A special thank you to all of her doctors and cousin, Geraldine Lowe, who became her chauffer in times of need. Her many friends and family who were there for her. And her granddaughter, Stacey Clifton, for watching over her and her grandfather, taking them wherever they needed to go. As my Aunt Lela used to say, “There will be another jewel in your crown, for all you’ve done.”
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Daraleen McIntyre will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2019, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
