Decatur – Elder Lester Y. Irons, 68, passed away quietly on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Fair Havens Senior Living surrounded by loved ones. Throughout his illness he prayed and leaned on God for strength. God looked down and saw his tired face and lifted him to rest. He was born on November 3, 1955, in New Madrid, MO to Gertrude (Dotson) Irons and Raymond Irons Sr. He moved to Decatur, IL in 1967 with his parents where he finished his education. Lester received Christ at an early age. He was a former member at House of Faith Church of God in Christ and later united with The Church of the Living God P.G.T. #1. In 2003, he became an ordained Elder. Elder Lester Irons was active in the church as a prayer warrior, minister of the word, and a wonderful singer. He started as an original member of the Unity Gospel Singers and was a member of the Brotherhood Group who traveled to many states to spread the gospel through music. One of his favorite songs he enlightened us with was Al Green’s “The Lord Will Make a Way.”
Elder Lester Irons inspiring words was “I am disabled physically, not in spirit.” He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
