Elvina Lavina Farthing's Obituary
Elvina Lavina Farthing, 73, died February 23, 2025 peacefully at home surrounded by family.
She was born on September 20, 1951, in Alton, Illinois to Mable Marie Burchell and George Michael Collins. She married Thomas Lee Farthing on June 18, 1974. They were divorced later after over 20 years of marriage.
Elvina was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan keeping track of the scores every season. She loved the gospel music group The Lesters. She had worked as a cook, waitress, and processor at a book bindery. The job she had the longest and loved the most was being a mom and wife.
She is survived by: two daughters, Brenda Ponville with Andrew Downs, Elizabeth Farthing with Jerome Vandygriff, both of Standard City; adopted daughters, Sara (Frank) Picken and Charlie (Lotus) Reyes of Show Low, Arizona; brothers, Everett Henson of Murphysboro, Matthew Collins and Mark Collins of Florida, John Collins of Tennessee; grandchildren, Michael Barrett and Shawna Barrett of Gillespie, Clarrissa Means of Brighton, Jordan Allison of Ohatchee, AL, Dustin Allison of Standard City, Aurora Vandygriff and Marcus Vandygriff of Roxanna, MacKenzie Boulanger, Matthew Wood and Frankie Picken, all of Havana; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Luke Collins and Harold Dean Burchell; sisters, Maude Jane Pocklington and Lavone Sue Griffith; her father, George Michael Collins, mother and step father, Mable Marie Burchell and Harold Burchell.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the family. There will be a celebration of Life at a later date.
