Emma Mary Britton's Obituary
Emma Mary Britton well known as Ms. Bonnie, 71, of Decatur passed from this life to the next on Friday, February 1, 2013 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Bonnie was born on June 21, 1941 in Greenville, MS to George and Luella (Glass) Evans Sr. and later moved to Decatur where she graduated from Decatur Public School. She worked as a CNA and also worked for the City of Decatur. Later on in her life she married Erma T. Britton Sr. in1994.
Emma was a great woman, very generous. She loved her family and friends. Emma was loved by all. She enjoyed the finer things in life. Emma loved to cook, play cards and sit back and enjoy her family. Her greatest fulfillment was her love and commitment her children and grandchildren. Emma had a unique gift that made all of us feel special.
She leaves not to mourn but cherish fond memories her mother, Luella Evans of Decatur; daughters, Sharon (Lawrence) Evans, Brenda Jones, and Angel (Lamar) Britton all of Decatur; sons, Mark Evans, John (Kimijata) Britton, Toby (Jennifer) Britton all of Decatur; and Marcus Willis of Dallas, TX; sister, Georgia Mae Barron of Decatur; brother, Michael (Jackie) Evans of Decatur; Catravious Dent of East St. Louis; sisters-in-law, Louis Taylor, Vernita Jarrett both of Brownsville, TN; Betty Evans, Louvenia Britton, Versie (Johnnie) Hood all of Decatur; brother-in-law, Herman Brittton of Chicago.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren, Kizzy Evans, Takila Evans, Kiewanna (Kourtnee) Roby, Shatia (Dino) Brooks, Leslie Sanders, gabrielle Johnson, Daija McClean, Markiya Willis, Kaisha Alcorn, Starr Britton, Kira Britton, Kyla Britton all of Decatur; Jermaine Jones, Vientci Jones, Jacolby Snow, Tyler Johnson, Trever (Felicia)Evans all of Decatur; Deondre Johnson of Muncie, IN; Jaquari Dodd of Chicago; Jermey Leggions, Anthony Rhymes, Toby Britton Jr., John Britton Jr., Kyeontrez Ermatiese Britton, Kyeondez Erma T. Britton all of Decatur; great-grandchildren, Kavona Deberry, Travion Turner, Coryena Henz, Shamiya Brooks, Kourtna Roby, and Kieara Roby all of Decatur; Noah J. Dodd of Chicago; special cousin, Rosie Williams; special son, Robert Taylor; special friend, Rutha Mae Gray and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Evans Sr., husband, Erma T. Britton Sr., sons, Erma T Britton Jr., grandsons, Lawrence L. Evans and Toby Britton III, sister, Victoria Evans, brothers, Victor, Eddie, and George Evans Jr., brothers-in-law, Robert Barron, Floyd and Lemmie Britton.
The family would like to thank all family and friends that were by her side and a special thank you to the DMH staff for their care of Emma.
Home going Celebration will be 12 noon on Monday, February 11, 2013 in House of Miracles Church with Pastor Neal officiating. Visitation will be 11-12 noon Monday in the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
