Eugene "Gene" Fry's Obituary
Eugene Louis (Gene) Fry 76 of Decatur transitioned to his heavenly home at 1:40 P.M. Saturday, July 13th at St. John's Hospital in Springfield Illinois with his family by his bedside.
Gene was born January 10th, 1948, in Latham Illinois the son of Wilmur and Maxine (Gladys) Fry. Gene Married Linda Cooley in 1977 and from that union, he gained four bonus children Robert Spence jr, Lori Spence (Patterson), Brian Spence, and Leatha (fry) Wells. Enlisting in the United States Army in 1967 he served for his country in the Vietnam war. After leaving the Army he drove big rigs for several years and gained the nickname “Diesel Mechanic.” Gene decided to go work for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 30 years as a diesel mechanic where he later retired. He was also a Member of Central Baptist Church and loved his church family a lot. He was involved in plenty of church activities. Other hobbies included working on vehicles, going fishing, going hunting, going to St Louis Cardinal games, and just spending time with his grandkids and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is his Sister Linda Hopkins in Decatur Illinois, five grandchildren Elizabeth (Kenneth) Hobbs of Peoria Illinois, Kristin (Billy) Justice of Niantic Illinois, Donnie Patterson of Peoria Illinois, Jodi (Jack) Denton of Denham springs, Louisiana, and Heather jones (Keith) Duanesburg New York. Six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many special friends.
Memorial services will be August 2nd at 11:00 am at Central Baptist Church with burial of cremated remains at a later date.
Gene was proceeded in death by his Parents, Spouse, four children and one brother.
The family would like to thank everyone who was there for them for all the moral support they received during this time. Gene will be remembered for his sarcastic personality by making people laugh with his funny jokes. He always wanted to make people smile.
