Florence E. Boland's Obituary
Florence E. Boland, 100, of Decatur, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 in Imboden Creek Living Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Jeff Grant as Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to service in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Decatur. Memorials are suggested to Sts. James and Patrick Catholic Church.
Florence was born November 20, 1909, in Decatur, the daughter of Victor J. and Rosa Scherer Schimanski. She was a graduate of St. Teresa Academy and Brown’s Business College. She worked as a legal secretary for over thirty years for the law firm of Boland and Delahunty.
Florence was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the St. Elizabeth Society at St. James. Her interests included bowling, winning several city tournaments during the 1940’s and 50’s. She was the family historian and record keeper, and also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She married Lee Boland July 19, 1962. He preceded her in death May 1, 1972.
She moved in 1985 to Our Lady of the Snows Retirement Community in Belleville, Illinois, and in 2009 returned to Decatur.
Survivors include: a sister, Mary E. Pfile of Decatur, 13 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Dayton, Helen Henneberry, Anne Hooley; brother, Leo Schimanski; and 3 nephews.
