Floyd Junior Gingrey's Obituary
Floyd Junior “Red” Gingrey, age 83, of Decatur, died Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 8:35 pm, with his family by his side.
Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at 6:00 pm, in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.
Floyd was born in Pana, on November 25, 1924, the eldest of nine children, born to Floyd Earl and Letha Watts Gingrey. He married Mary Ann Rentfro December 22, 1945. They were married for 49 years before she passed away. Floyd later married Eunice Heideman Dansby. They have been married nearly 13 years.
Floyd was a strong labor union activist while employed at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Decatur. He was an active member of URW Local 713 for 23 1/2 years. He served in various positions in the Local including executive board member, trustee, shop steward, safety committee chairman, and union building maintenance man. He was active in the Decatur and Macon County Senior Center, organizing the pinochle group, and also serving as the chairman of the activity programs committee. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, usher, parking lot greeter, and co-chaired the Lunch Bunch Senior Group. He was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Assn., the Symphony Orchestra Guild, the Old Time Piano Contest Assn., and Juvae Jazz Society. He loved the Decatur Youth Symphony above all his other musical interests.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Eunice of Decatur; daughter Marilyn Apke Jim; son William Gingrey Natalie of Mt. Zion; three grandchildren, Jennifer Miller of Warrensburg; Christina Gingrey of Mt. Zion; and Kyle Gingrey of Mt. Zion; one great grandchild; siblings, Gene Gingrey Darlene of Pana; Thelma Koontz Wesley of Pana; Donald Gingrey Bertie of Taylorville; Delmer Gingrey of Muskogee, OK; Max Gingrey Rena of Aurora; John Gingrey Nancy of Shelbyville; Larry Gingrey Rita of Pana; and Joyce Baylor of Muskogee, OK; stepchildren, Deborah Wells William W. III of Orlando, FL and Ellsworth H. Dansby III Patricia of Iraq and Athens, IL.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann.
The family requests no flowers. Donations in his honor may be made to the Decatur and Macon County Senior Center or First Presbyterian Church of Decatur.
