Floyd J. "Joe" Despres Jr.'s Obituary
Decatur – Floyd J. “Joe” Despres, Jr., 78, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019, in his home with his family by his side.
Floyd was born February 20, 1941, in Decatur, the son of Floyd J. and Helen Margaret (Campbell) Despres, Sr. Floyd, a U.S. Navy veteran, graduated from St. Teresa High School, retired from USN and USNRES after 20 years, and Caterpillar Tractor Company, Decatur, IL. After retiring he enjoyed traveling and in later years volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he was also a member of the choir. Floyd married Carol M. Kirk on July 14, 1979.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents: Floyd J. Despres, Sr. and Helen Margaret Campbell; grandparents: Joseph and Cecelia Despres, Charles and Gertrude Campbell; nephew, Christopher Despres; and step son-in-law, Tom Nemcek.
Survivors include his wife, Carol M. Despres; step-children: Susan Nemcek, Shari Shuff, Shirley (Jason) Shanholtzer and Robert (Mary) Kirk; sister, Jeanne Marie (John) Beal; brother, John Edward (Jane) Despres; 10 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 13, 2019, from 11 am until noon Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Private family burial will take place in Macon County Memorial Park, Decatur. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
