Floyd M. Rubin's Obituary
Floyd Martin Rubin, 84, of Decatur, Illinois peacefully departed this world surrounded by family on the morning of October 14, 2024 while residing at Vonderleith Living Center in Mt. Pulaski. During the past 11 months, he faced unrelenting health challenges, but those challenges also created a tighter bond with his family.
Floyd was born on March 10, 1940 to Martin and Ella Rubin in Kinmundy, IL. He worked for a total of 40 years as a machinist at Superior Welding Company and Decatur Machine and Tool. He spent his retirement fishing, watching his grandchildren grow, and listening to live country music.
He leaves behind his daughter Amy Lakin of Springfield, IL, his bonus daughters Amanda (Sterling) Hurt and Candace Leamon of Decatur, and his bonus son William Leamon, also of Decatur. He was a loving grandfather to Jake and Julia Lakin, Dalton Squires, Dalton Harrison, Kayden and Lilliana Hurt, Aron and Aric Drake, and Zaiden Brewer, and a loving brother to Betty Lyon of Mt. Pulaski and Shirley Fairbanks of Decatur. He will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews.
His family will honor his life with a visitation on Wednesday, October 23 from 11:00 – 1:00 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL. The visitation will be followed by a memorial service at St. John’s and internment at the Mt. Pulaski Cemetery.
He has been welcomed to heaven by family members who preceded him in death. They include his parents, Martin and Ella Rubin; his son, Andrew Rubin; his wife, Theresa Rubin; his brothers, Leroy and Lavern Rubin; his nephew, Jeffery Rubin; and infant granddaughter, Paisley Starr Hurt. We imagine he is sharing lots of laughter and love with them all.
Memorials can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Decatur or Vonderlieth Living Center in Mt. Pulaski.
