Frances Elizabeth Bergin's Obituary
Frances Elizabeth Bergin, 88, of Decatur passed away at 1:20 am on Sunday, October, 23, 2011 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Elizabeth was born on September 5, 1923 the daughter of Otto and Charlotte Wehmhoff Tohill. She graduated from St. Teresa in 1941 and Felt & Tarrant Business School in Springfield in 1942. During WWII she worked at Houdaille Hershey and Caterpillar in the payroll department. An avid Cub fan, Elizabeth was a charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a current member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, DCCW and 55 and Over at Our Lady of Lourdes. She married Charles Wayne Bergin Feb. 16, 1946 in St. Patrick Church and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Surviving are her sons, David Bergin of Kimberly, OR and Gary Bergin of Oreana; grandchildren: Marcy Jeff Barber, Jill Bergin, Ben Mandy Bergin and Ukiah Pearson; great grandchildren: Brynna, Samuel, Aeden, Oliver and Riley, special cousins: John and Bill Wehmhoff of Springfield; sisters-in-law: Norma Bergin and Marlene Garecht.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers-in-law: Thomas Carol Bergin and Gene Bergin.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Rick Weltin as Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to service in the church. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery concluding with the “Flight Home” ceremony. Memorials are suggested to: Good Samaritan Inn or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
