Frances H. "Helen" Griffin's Obituary
Frances H. ”Helen” Griffin, 89 of Decatur, entered into eternal rest on Monday October 21, 2002 in Decatur.
Rite of Christian Burial will be 2 P.M. Thursday October 24, 2002 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Father Rick Weltin officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday October 23, 2002 from 5 until 8 P.M., in J. J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home, vigil prayer service at 4:30 P.M. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Helen was born in Lovington on September 17, 1913 the daughter of Frank and Sara Malloy Smith. She was a member of the first graduating class of St. Teresa High School in 1931. Helen worked in nursing services at St. Mary’s Hospital for twenty plus years before retiring in 1982. Prior to that she worked for several years at F.W. Means. Helen was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She married William G. ”Pat” Griffin on January 09, 1933 in Lovington, and he preceded her in death on October 24, 1967.
Surviving are her daughters: Patricia Mitchell of Aurora; Edith Cox Ron of Decatur; son Robert Griffin Jan of Mt. Zion; brother, Thomas Smith Lois of Decatur; sister, Mary Jane Rennekamp of Belleville; daughter in law, Patsie Sheets Sid of Montgomery Texas; foster child, Mary Moore George of Florida; She was a grandma/granny to: Rhonda Plankenhorn Royal and Dan Cox of Decatur; Laurie Bolsen Chuck of Mt. Zion; Jeff Mitchell of Aurora; Susie Johnson Greg of O’Fallon, MO.; Tina Ivey Curtis, Terry Ann Ambrose and Tracey Sheets all of Texas; Bill Griffin of McHenry IL.; Sean Griffin of Arlington VA.; Jason Griffin of Springfield, VA.; Todd Griffin of Mt. Zion; Foster grandchild Melanie Wilson of Naperville; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson. She had the priviledge of being called Grandma by: Edith Marques Dave, and Deb and Bill Kraft. She was a host Grandma to Monica from Italy; Alina from Colombia, SA.; Milan, Dan and Milan P. all from Czech Republic; Lars from Germany; Johnny from Argentina and Mike from Slovakia.
Her parents; husband, son, William G. Griffin Jr.; grandson, Scott Cox; brothers: John, Robert, Donald Gene, and William Smith; and sister, Barbara Ann Smith preceded her in death.
Helen was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother/Granny, Sister, Aunt and cousin to many. She will be dearly missed by her friends at Spring Creek Towers.
