Frazier L. "Joe" Bonds' Obituary
Frazier Lee “Joe” Bonds, 76, departed this life to go home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2015 in McKinley Court Care Center, with his loving wife by his side.
Homegoing services to celebrate “Joe’s” life will be 11 am, Friday, May 15, 2015, in the Star of Hope Mausoleum, 2091 N. Oakland Ave. Decatur, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Camp Butler Cemetery, with military honors.
“Joe” as known by his friends, was born October 8, 1938 in Jackson, TN., the son of Robert Anderson and Leveda Bonds. After moving to Decatur at a young age, he was raised by his sister, Mattie Robertson. He served 11 years in the United States Army where he was honorable discharged and worked several jobs afterwards retiring from Zayres Department Store in Springfield, IL. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He later married the love of his life, Gretchen Silkwood. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing.
He leaves not to mourn, but to cherish fond memories, his wife, Gretchen Bonds; father-in-law, Lowell Silkwood; sister-in-law Evelyn (Bob) Whitacra; sister-in-law Cynthia (John) Higgins; special niece, Mary Louise Flinn; two nieces, Jodi Higgins and Jessica Ellison; three great-nephews; long time special friends, James “Willie” (Sue) Billingsley, Joe L. (Annette) Rawls, Sr.
“Joe” is preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
The family gives a special thanks to the entire staff at McKinley Court Care Center and especially the southwest nursing staff who all went above and beyond the call of duty to make his last days as comfortable as possible.
