Gary Lynn Borders' Obituary
Gary Lynn Borders, 66, of Mt. Zion, IL went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.
A celebration of life service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Life Builder’s Church, 833 W Pershing Rd, Decatur, IL.
Gary was born February 18, 1957 in Springfield, IL. Gary is the son of Stanley C. Borders (deceased) and Irene Borders Schenkle (deceased). He married Annette Funneman on August 5, 2000.
Gary was a graduate of MacArthur High School Class of 1975. He spent 20 years at Illinois Power, but his passion was in ministry and spreading the word of Jesus. Gary never knew a stranger. He would tell anyone who would listen about his passion for music and the word of God. He did this passionately by being part of the worship team at Maranatha Church. He was an ordained minister and worship pastor at New Beginnings Church of God.
He served as a counselor at McKinley Court Nursing Home to both patients and patient’s families. He had a love for all genres of music and a gifted talent of playing the piano, writing songs, and singing. The groups he was a member of were The Spirituals, The New Creation, New Salem Country Opry, and Kidd Kaddilac.
He played church league basketball and softball. He was a life-long Chicago Cubs Fan. He loved reading and studying history and teaching Bible classes at New Beginnings Church of God.
He was a proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren. They were one of his greatest joys in his life.
Surviving are his wife: Annette of Mt. Zion; children: Kristin Buttz (Darin) of Mt. Zion, Kyle Borders (Kristina) of Mt. Zion, Brooke Puckett of Kitty Hawk, NC, Donnie Funneman of Tower Hill, IL; brothers: Jerry (Sandy) of Montana, Mark (Leila) of Tennessee; grandchildren: Ryne, Kaleb,Easton, Bryce, Bo, Anabelle, Liam, Trinity, Max, Amelia, and Lennon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
