Gary Glen Hartman's Obituary
Gary Glen Hartman, of Decatur, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born on February 20, 1948, to Glen Hartman and Patricia (Creek) Roberts of Decatur, who preceded him in death.
Gary was the eldest of five children; Rod Hartman, Karen Brown, Kevin Roberts, and Jon Roberts.
Gary lived and worked his entire life in Decatur, where he was employed by ADM / Stratas Foods, Mueller Company and IMI Cash Valve. He was a proud graduate of Eisenhower High School where he excelled as a basketball and baseball player. He went on to Illinois State University where he earned a baseball scholarship.
His love for sports continued throughout his life as an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Gary served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971 during the Vietnam War, stationed in Greece, where he served as a radio operator.
He is survived by his son, Ryan (Julie) Hartman of Temecula, CA, and grandchildren Jacob, Isabella and Joshua, and by his daughter Bridgett (Jim) Sullivan and grandchildren Connor and Kellen.
Gary is also survived by Virginia Kay (Boyer) Shaw, married 1970 – 1988, they remained special friends throughout his life.
Gary will be remembered for his love of his family, his service to his country, and his lifelong passion for sports. All my love...
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rod Hartman and sister, Karen Brown.
