Gary E. Maddox's Obituary
Decatur-Gary E. Maddox, 75, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 in his home.
He was born May 5, 1939 in Decatur, the son of Lynn and Margaret (Bishop) Maddox. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was previously employed with Libson Shops in St. Louis, Warren & Van Praag Inc in Decatur, and the Decatur Township Assessor’s Office. He was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church and enjoyed antique cars, St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time with his family. He married Karen M. Berryhill August 14, 1960 in Decatur. They shared over fifty-four years together.
He leaves behind his wife Karen of Decatur, sons Wade B. Maddox and wife Ginni of Hampden, Maine, Lt. Col. Craig L. Maddox MD and wife Julie stationed in Vicenza, Italy, and James G. Maddox and wife Karina of Fredericksburg, Virginia, sister Mary Lynn Van Praag of Decatur, grandchildren Jarrod Maddox, Megan Batchelder and husband Blaine, Jessica Maddox, Tabitha Maddox, Rachel Maddox, Nathan Maddox, Shane Maddox, and Paul Maddox, great-granddaughter Adrianna Batchelder, and his beloved dogs Berry and Chloe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son Kevin P. Maddox.
Services to celebrate Gary’s life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Old Union Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials are suggested to the CCSI Charitable Fund or Bethlehem Presbyterian Church.
