Gary P. Ransdell's Obituary
Decatur – Gary Ransdell was called home Saturday, February 24, 2018, with his wife Janet at his side.
Gary was born to Philip and Letha (O’Brien) Ransdell March 20, 1946. Gary was a lifelong resident of Decatur. A graduate of Millikin University, Gary moved on to find a permanent home with Caterpillar until his retirement. Gary attended and was a member of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church.
Gary help a passion for life that was unique. Enjoying every moment he could, Gary stayed busy officiating local sporting events, golfing with his wife and friends, jogging on a regular basis and annual trips to Florida. There was never a “down” moment with Gary around, his energy was infectious among those who knew him and loved him.
Gary held many great qualities, humor, optimism, non-judgmental, loving and dependable to name a few. Gary knew and understood the value of love, family, and friendship and he demonstrated that through his actions with his family and friends. Gary will be truly missed by many.
Preceding him in death by his parents, Letha and Phillip Ransdell; 2 sons: Rhett Ransdell and Ryan Ransdell; a brother James Ransdell and one granddaughter Maria Cole.
Gary is survived by his wife Janet Ransdell; children: Phillip Ransdell of TX, Sabrina Hall of Decatur, Tiffany Hayes of Decatur, Rusty Hall of Decatur, Leslie Murphy (Andrew) of Decatur, Lisa Creason of Decatur, Brad Creason of Decatur; sister, Maureen Jesse (Joe) of Decatur; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; one nephew, three nieces and one great nephew.
Visitation is being held from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service will be at 4:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate his life will be 10 am Thursday, March 8, 2018, in St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church.
