Gene A. Pfotenhauer's Obituary
Morton – Gene A. Pfotenhauer, 88, of Morton, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025, in Sanford, FL.
Gene was born July 30, 1937, in Chicago, IL, to Albert and Lillian (Dykstra) Pfotenhauer. He went to Lakeview High School and played football. He then put himself through college and graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Gene was a world traveler with Caterpillar living in several different countries in Europe for 8 years. He retired from Caterpillar after 40 plus years. He had a passion for Corvettes, NASCAR, the NFL (Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers), fishing, playing cards especially Gin Rummy, and all fun things with friends.
Gene married Rilla J. (Markwell) Walker in Decatur, on July 22, 1972. Gene and Rilla enjoyed traveling, especially in their motor home and made many memories wintering in Nettles Island, Florida. Rilla preceded Gene in death on September 16, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and brother James Pfotenhauer.
Surviving are his children: Kelly (Jeff) Kiedaisch of Joliet, IL, Rita (Robert) Burton of Decatur, IL, Phillip (Vanessa) Walker of Melissa, TX and Gary (Cath) Pfotenhauer of Glasgow, Scotland; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth McElwee; sister-in-law, Jeanne Pfotenhauer; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Mass will be 10am, Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Florey Cemetery, Long Creek TWP. There will be no visitation.
