George J Gagnon, Jr's Obituary
George James Gagnon, Jr. 86, of Decatur passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27th peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 19, 1932 in Marshall, Minnesota, the son of George and Theresa Olsen Gagnon. He married Ruby Smith on June 30, 1950 in Marshall, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2013.
George was a charter member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Decatur. He retired from Iron Workers Local 46 and Lasco, Inc after 45 years. He volunteered for a number of local organizations, and enjoyed fishing. Over the years, he and Ruby traveled to nearly all the 50 states.
He is survived by six children, Mark (Laurie Starks) Gagnon of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Mike (Karen) Gagnon of Decatur; Monica (Dave) Nicholls of Oreana; David (Maranda) Gagnon of Decatur; Doug Gagnon of Decatur; and Diane (Bret) Beaver of Springtown, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Julie (Perry) Schumacher of Marshall, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Sharlene Gagnon of Cerro Gordo; and Violet DeVos of Marshall, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; as well as special friend, Sharon; and his dog, Chip.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Mildred; and three brothers, Stanley, Emmett and Fran.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 9th at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Decatur. Burial will follow at Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening, March 8th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, Habitat for Humanity, or Operation Enduring Support.
