I met George in 1973. He was teaching a photo course at the YMCA. I was a high school photographer. I learned a lot and he was a wonderful guy.
George was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Decatur when our family started attending in the early 80's. He seemed to approach any conversation with a warm smile regardless of his position on the topic. We enjoyed his company at the many events we shared over the years and were always impressed with his photography.
Knowing George Nichols has been an hornor and a privilege. When special techniques were needed to preserve a photographic record of the 1911 Decatur Police Department, George had the knowhow and willingness to make negatives and seemless prints of superior quality. Few have the knoweldge and determination needed to capture natural beauty that George did on many occasions. We will miss him and will treasure fondest memories. It was a pleasure to know George. He was a man of class, with so much knowledge that he loved to share with others. We enjoyed chatting with him at AICP just a week and a half ago! He will certainly be missed, but we are thankful to have known him and called him our friend. He lived a long and full life! Our thoughts are with Roberta and his family now.Steve & Sue Watts
George was a good man. I met him 40 years ago when he served as Theatre 7 photographer, worked with him when he was Treasurer of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Decatur and got to visit with him earlier this month at the UUFD 60th Anniversary celebration. His photography will live on at our church and in my home. My condolences to the family.Mark W. SorensenDecatur, IL
