George Edwin Wallis' Obituary
George Edwin Wallis, 82, of Decatur, IL passed away March 22, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, IL.
George was born February 1, 1942 in Gillispie, IL, the son of George Howard and Edna (Palmore) Wallis.
George was a veteran of the US Navy. He married Nancy Woolums on September 1, 1962 in Decatur, IL. After his military service, George pursued a career as a truck driver, serving 44 years as an owner/operator and lastly, as an employee of Landes Trucking.
George enjoyed gardening, working on lawn mowers and canning food. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his children, Kim Fry (Greg) of Decatur, IL, Jeff Wallis (Tammy) of Decatur, IL, Kelly Hattemer (Ed) of Oskaloosa, KS, Jerry Wallis of Decatur, IL, Joe Wallis (Susie) of Dalton City, IL, Kathy England of Decatur, IL; bonus daughter, Tammy Myers of Decatur, IL; siblings, Sharon Cagle of North Carolina, Alice Hurley of Florida, Scott Wallis of Princeton, IL; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; and two sisters.
Funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM – noon, Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Harristown Cemetery.
