Gerald C. Brumleve's Obituary
Gerald “Jeep” Brumleve, 78, of Decatur, peacefully went to enjoy his eternal life on February 18, 2008, surrounded by his family.
Jeep was given to us on November 26, 1929 the son of Raymond and Lena Brumleve in Teutopolis, Illinois where he attended grade school and high school.
This dedicated St. Louis Cardinal Fan was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Knights of Columbus Council #577, past Faithful Navigator and 4th degree member of Very Reverend Jeremiah J. Murphy Assembly #211, and Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #65.
He was a baseball & basketball coach for his own sons’ teams & he delighted in watching his grandchildren play football, basketball & softball as he viewed from the bleachers or his lawn chair.
On August 19, 1950 he married the love of his life, Rita Ann Koester & celebrated life with her for 57 years. She survives him along with his daughter, Diana of Decatur; sons: Doug of Decatur, Bruce wife, Becki of Dewitt, and Mark wife, Patti of Decatur.
Grandpa took great pride & gave tremendous love to his grandchildren: Rachael of Chicago; Jessica of Irving, TX; Rebekah special friend Fredrick of Champaign; Michael wife Heather of Taylor, TX; Sam of Dewitt; Clint, Chet, Lena friend Garret, Sarah, Shane & Rylie of Decatur. His newest delight was his first great-grandson, Payton of Taylor, TX.
Jeep was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim and grandson Nathan.
Because education was such and important part of his life memorials may be made to St. Teresa High School or Our Lady of Lourdes School.
Visitation will be 7 to 9 pm Friday, February 22, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Saturday, February 23, 2008 following a one hour visitation at the church. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery.
Jeep’s family wish to extend their deep gratitude to the compassionate care given to him by Dr.’s Sherwood, Verma, Cohen, Kola, Khan, Arnold and the DMH ICU nurses, especially Nichole.
The family of Gerald “Jeep” Brumleve is being served by the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe St. Decatur.
