Gerald Clayton Nihiser's Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” Clayton Nihiser, age 48, of Decatur, died Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born on October 26, 1966, in Decatur, to Jerry and Donna (Stewart) Nihiser. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1984. Jerry worked for the City of Decatur for more than 25 years. Jerry was an ASA (American Softball Association) umpire and later a NSA (National Softball Association) umpire. He was an avid softball player and loved playing with his Precision Recovery teammates. He loved weight lifting, traveling and spending time with his family. Jerry was a Christian man and attended New Beginnings church.
He is survived by his two children, Hunter and Clayton Nihiser; his parents, Jerry and Donna Nihiser; his granddaughter, Emily Nihiser; his grandmother, Betty Nihiser; his sister, Angie (Hamid) Sagha of Forsyth; his brother, Jason (Lisa) Nihiser of Decatur; his special friend, Brandie McCorvie of Decatur; his nieces and nephews Darreon, Shelby, Lacey and Bailey Nihiser and Alex Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul( Grace) Stewart and Charles “Chuck” Nihiser; his two aunts, Dee Dee Cesar and Judy Cunningham; his two uncles, John and Randy Stewart, and his four cousins, Jonathon Nihiser, John Stewart Jr., Kimberly West and Michelle (West) White.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jerry Nihiser will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, September 28, at the funeral home. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery following the services on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to his surviving children.
