Gerald Leon "Gerry" Ruff's Obituary
Forsyth – Gerald Leon “Gerry” Ruff, 77, of Forsyth, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at in his home surrounded by his family.
Gerry was born on July 7, 1946, in Holiday, IL, the son of Paul Henry and Zolla Mae (Polley) Ruff. An honor’s graduate from Richland Community College with a degree in drafting, Gerry was a Navy veteran of the Viet Nam war stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk. He worked in the power plant and as a facilities engineer at Caterpillar for 35 plus years until his retirement in 2009. Gerry loved to golf, was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Rolling Prairie Corvette Club and former member and officer of the Association of Facilities Engineers. Gerry married Peggy Young on May 1, 1976, in Decatur.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Pauline Shouse and Marlene Lawson; and his brother, Robert Ruff.
Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Peggy of Forsyth; daughter, Jennifer Ruff of Columbus, OH; brothers: Roger (Joyce) Ruff and Gary (Dorothy) Ruff; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11am Thursday, May 30, 2024, at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial with military rites will follow place in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ or Disabled American Veterans.
