Gladola Harris' Obituary
Gladola Harris, 86 of Decatur, Illinois was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan.
“Aunt Gladys”, as she was affectionately called, was born on April 17, 1930, in Senatobia, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Cortis Vorties and Cora Barr. She was married to James Leggions and to this union 4 children were born. Girtie Mae Leggions, Sheila Ann Leggions. Sons, James Albert Leggions Jr. and Charles Fox Leggions.
Gladola was a former member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church for several years and later united with The Church of the Living God, PGT Temple#1 under the leadership of Overseer Tyrone P. Cooper until her health failed her and she had to move to Lansing, Michigan with her granddaughter.
Gladola loved her church and church family where she was on the Mother Board, was over the clothing Ministry and helped with the Decoration Committee.
She loved to garden and was a great canner! Everyone loved her canned Chow Chow Pickles! And loved to eat her baked Peach Cobblers. She enjoyed traveling and going to the Casino’s, playing the Lottery and working with puzzles.
Her life, legacy and good cheer will be remembered by her sons; James Albert Leggions Jr., Lansing,Michigan and Charles Fox Leggions, Flint, Michigan. Special granddaughter, Sheila Ann “Punkin” Manns, Lansing, Michigan, and granddaughters, Gwen Leggions, Decatur, Illinois, Trulane Rhymes-Pea, Lansing, Michigan, Jessica Leggions, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Grandsons, Marvin Cook, Decatur, Illinois, Gary Manns, Lansing, Michigan and Lewis Charles Leggions Jr. Flint, Michigan. One Brother L.C. Vorties Sr. and wife Hazel Vorties. Her special nephew Terry Watkins and niece Nadine Watkins, along with her adopted nieces and nephews,Lee Taylor, Laura Singleton, Tiffany Lawson-Grant, Mae Stokes, Howard Graves, Lee (Buddy) Graves, Kadin Livingston and Sultan Livingston and Missionary Thelma Jones….36 great- grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cortis Vorties and Cora Barr, daughters; Girtie Mae Leggions, Sheila Ann Leggions, 2 brothers, Robert Lee and Henry Palmer.
Gladola will be missed as a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great- Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
Services to celebrate the life of Gladola Harris will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017, at The Church of the Living God, PGT Temple#1 with Overseer Tyrone Cooper, Pastor. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017, before the service at the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to The Church of the Living God, PGT Temple#1.
