Glen D. Tennyson's Obituary
DECATUR – Glen D. Tennyson age 78 entered into eternal life at 2:54 p.m. Friday November 28, 2003 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Christian Mass celebrating his life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday December 2, 2003 in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Fr. Rick Weltin celebrating. Visitation will be Tuesday 12 - 1:30 p.m. in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with vigil prayers read at 1:45 p.m. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park with military rites being conducted by Macon County Honor Guard. Glen was born December 12, 1924 in Dalgren, Illinois the son of Riley and Ethel Stoltz Tennyson. He proudly served his country during the World War II, serving in Africa and Italy, in the 168th Infantry Division, the 34th Infantry Division and the 5th Army Brigade. He received the Purple Heart for his disability, Bronze and Silver Stars for his bravery in Action. He was a Lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks International and American Legion; attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with his Wife of 53 years. He married Dorothy Bauer on July 29, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois.
Glen served as the Hamilton County Treasurer for four years; owned and operated Western Auto in Farmer City for a number of years; managed Purkinson Fertilizer Company for over 20 years; he was a Real Estate Broker; owned and operated Tennyson Insurance and Glen's Realty for many years. He was a member of the American Association of Certified Appraisers and the National Association of Realtors. Glen retired in 1979.
Glen will be fondly remembered by his wife of 53 years, sons; John D. Tennyson of Decatur, Il, Dale L. and wife Sharon Tennyson of Decatur, Il, daughters; Glenda VanScyoc and husband Benjamin of Decatur, Il, Paula Morris and husband Bradley of Bettendorf, Iowa, sisters; Frances Huffstuttler of McLeansboro, Il, Lorene Skelton and husband William of Collinsville, Il, brother; Herman Tennyson of Dalgren, Il.; nine grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren
Glen was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family. He had many friends. Glen will be deeply missed by his family and all his friends. He was a very strong willed person with a lot of persistence and determination. We love you Dad.
