Glenn Clinton Hargis' Obituary
Glenn Clinton Hargis, 79, passed away November 21, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Glenn was born to Glenn C. Hargis and Grace Mabel Stockdale in Decatur April 19, 1945. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur and had a very broad career in his life after his military service.
Glenn was a proud Marine, serving in Vietnam during the conflict from 1963-1966.
Glenn was a member of Jerome R. Gorin Chapter, Order of DeMolay located in Decatur, celebrating 52 years of being a Senior DeMolay.
Brother Glenn Hargis petitioned Stephen Decatur Lodge No. 979 A.F. & A.M. and was initiated April 19, 1967, in Decatur, Illinois. He was passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft June 7th and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on June 30th, 1967, in said lodge. He was elected to plural membership at Macon Lodge No. 8 A.F. & A.M. also in Decatur on April 11, 2000. He was elected to plural membership in Edgar Lodge No. 829 A.F. & A.M. located in Decatur November 21st, 2013, and was also elected to plural membership in South Macon Lodge No. 467 A.F. & A.M. located in Macon, IL. Worshipful Brother Hargis was an Honorary Member at Argenta Lodge No. 871 A.F. & A.M. located in Argenta, IL.
Worshipful Brother Hargis served as Worshipful Master of Macon Lodge No. 8 for 3 terms; 2004, 2008 and 2012. Brother Hargis had the distinction of being named Senior Deacon in the charter dispensation in Edgar Lodge No. 829 when it was moved from Hume, IL to Decatur. At the time of his death, he held various offices within his lodges, Junior Warden of No. 979, Senior Deacon of No. 8, Senior Deacon of No. 829, Junior Deacon of No. 467. He was issued a 50-year membership certificate by Macon Lodge No.8 in 2021.
Glenn is survived by close friend and Daughter, Janet Binkley of Decatur, Gabriel Carr and all his close friends at his Masonic lodges.
The friends of Glenn Hargis will have a pot-luck meal and memorial service at the David Leroy Logan Masonic Center (Macon Lodge No. 8 1650 Huston Drive Decatur, IL 62526) on Saturday, December 21st, 2024, with Masonic Rites at 3:00 PM. Please bring a covered dish and remember Glenn’s life with his friends.
