Glenn Allan Spain, Sr.'s Obituary
Glenn Allan Spain, Sr., 87, born on April 4th, 1939, departed this world to join his Heavenly Father on April24, 2026. Glenn was born at home to Marshall & Helen (Peters) Spain in Decatur, IL.
Glenn worked for Staley’s, Thornton Welding, and finally Caterpillar, retiring from Caterpillar as a Line Supervisor after 32 years. He started at Caterpillar as a young man sweeping floors, slowly working himself up to Supervisor. He belonged to the Stephan Decatur Masonic Lodge 979 for 57 years.
He was President of the Christian Motorcycle Association local chapter and auxiliary sheriff for Macon County. Glenn and Vivian enjoyed riding their motorcycle together. Together they traveled all over and had wonderful and exciting trips joining their friends from the CMA for fellowship. Glenn traveled all over the US, and probably one of his most enjoyable trips was driving his motorcycle all the way up through Canada into Alaska. He especially enjoyed volunteering at Coziahrs Blessing of the Bikes. He attended Niehaus open house in Litchfield nearly every year, buying each family member a lottery ticket. He was the lucky winner one year, winning a brand-new Honda Goldwing. His faith was very important to him. He was an avid woodworker, enjoyed building anything anyone wanted. He was a self-taught plumber, electrician, and all-around handy man. Why hire someone when he was around? He could do it all!!!
Glenn is survived by his wife of 44 years, Vivian. His children: Allan (Jo) Spain, Annette (Rick) Connelley, Gary (Raquel) Spain. Grandkids: Joan, Jerry, Hailee, Stefan, Matt, Andy, Cody, John, Karolyn, and 9 great-grandkids. His four bonus kids: Danny (Vickie) Lynch, Red Lynch, Dianna (Steve) Hanners, Dean (Katie) Lynch. 8 grandkids and a host of great grandkids. He also leaves behind 4 nieces, 3 nephews, and their spouses and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Marshall, Jim, and Richard, infant sister, and his wife, Carol.
The family would like to thank The Randall Residence for being so kind and understanding and for taking such wonderful care of Dad. The staff on the 4100 floor of DMH, Dr. G.
