Gloria Williams' Obituary
Gloria Ann (Alumbaugh) Williams, 81, Mt. Zion peacefully passed away surrounded by her family Saturday October 7, 2017 at Eastview Terrace, Sullivan Illinois.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home 2801 N. Monroe Decatur, Illinois, with Reverend Tina Parnell-Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Point Pleasant Cemetery Long Creek, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Gloria was born August 10, 1936 to Clyde and Mildred (Keeling) Alumbaugh. She attended Decatur High School, where she met the love of her life, graduating in 1954.
She married Ivan (Doug) Williams May 5, 1957, they had 2 Children Jeffery and Penny Williams.
She was employed by the Avon and Rogers Theaters during High School.
She was then employed by American Farmers Insurance Company leaving the workforce when her children were born to devote her time to her children.
She returned to the workforce working at 4E’s Christmas Tree Farm after her grandchildren were born to spoil them with Christmas presents.
She was a caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt always being a room mother, PTA President, Girl Scout Leader, cheering on her granddaughters at basketball games and always enjoying her weekly dinners with her granddaughters.
She enjoyed bowling, she bowled in several leagues over the years, being secretary for the Coffeebreakers #2 league for over 30 years, her team winning the city tournament 2004, she was inducted into the Decatur Bowlers Hall of Fame in 2008.
She was an avid China Painter and teacher, member and past president of the Palette and Brush Art Guild, member and past president of the Illinois World Organization of China Painters hosting their 25th Convention in 1991.
She and Doug enjoyed several winters in Florida in their motorhome where she made new and lasting friendships.
She enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, especially her favorite player Matt Carpenter.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Mildred (Keeling) Alumbaugh, In-laws Melvin and Mary (Perry) Williams, Brother and Sister In-law Richard (Red) and Maureen Alumbaugh.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Ivan (Doug) Williams, Son and Daughter In-law Jeffery and Maureen Williams, Daughter Penny Williams, Granddaughters Lauren Williams, Melissa and Husband Jessie Woodard, Great Grand Daughter Genevieve Ann Woodard, Sister In-law Nancy (Bob) Eichelberger, Brother In-Law Stephen (Kathy) Williams, Nephews Gary (Jolene) Eichelberger, Brett (Hazel) Williams, Doug (Stephanie) Alumbaugh, Nieces Karen Eichelberger, Lori (Scott) Cotner, Amy (Mohammad) Kahn, Tina (Steve) Moyer and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Eastview Terrace, especially Robin, and Harbor Light Hospice for the care they gave Gloria.
