Gregory W. "Grumpy" Edwards' Obituary
Decatur-Gregory W. “Grumpy” Edwards, 65, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was born November 21, 1947 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Garner) Edwards. He proudly served his country in the USMC and U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Rangers serving two tours during the Vietnam War. He was previously employed as a pipefitter with UAW Local #65 retiring with over twenty-nine years of service. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed the History Channel, his Harley, and visiting Coziahr Harley Davidson.
He leaves behind his daughter Jennifer Edwards and husband Travis Heath of Decatur, son Erik Edwards and wife Elizabeth of Oreana, granddaughter Ailye Edwards of Oreana, and aunt Jane Vetter and husband Bill of Buffalo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services to celebrate his life will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2013 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be 1p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013 in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials may be directed to the Boy Scouts of America.
